Thursday, Nov. 27: At 8:48 pm a deputy was advised of a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 near County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. The driver had indicated that he had left the scene and would come to the Law Enforcement Center to get a state report form.
Wednesday, Nov. 26: At 3:07 pm a rural resident from the 400 block of C Ave in Cedar Township came to the Law Enforcement Center to report the theft of a generator from an out building at his residence. At 3:58 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of 130th St in Highland Township to investigate a harassment concern. At 4:29 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 30 east of the Raccoon River bridge east of County Road P-14. Sara Lynn Latimer, 29, of Carroll was eastbound. She stated that she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer due to slick road conditions and entered the north ditch. Latimer was not injured and her vehicle sustained very little damage. Latimer was issued a citation for no proof of insurance. At 4:46 pm a deputy was advised of a vehicle that had slid into the ditch and was experiencing mechanical problems on Highway 30 and Hillcrest Ave east of Scranton. The driver and two passengers were transported to Sparky’s One Stop in Jefferson. The vehicle was towed by Durbin’s Automotive due to the car not having a spare tire. At 4:57 pm a deputy assisted a motorist at the same location that had slid into the ditch due to road conditions. The deputy placed a 24 hour removal tag on the vehicle. At 5:01 pm a deputy was advised of a pickup truck that had swerved to avoid a semi and went into the ditch on Highway 30 near H Ave east of Scranton. The driver was not injured and the truck sustained no damage.
Tuesday, Nov. 25: At 1:06 am, a deputy and the Paton fire department responded to a stalk bale fire in a farm field near 120th St and V Ave in Paton Township. The stack of large corn stalk bales was destined for the cellulose ethanol plant near Nevada. The fire is under investigation. At 1:30 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with impounding a car after the officer arrested the vehicle driver for OWI. At 3:46 pm a deputy investigated damage to a fence along 230th Street near H Ave in Jackson Township.

Sunday, Nov. 23: At 6:07 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson Police Officer with an investigation at the Greenwood Apartments.
Saturday, Nov. 22: At 9:57 am, Greene County deputies, Greene County EMS and the Jefferson fire department all responded to a single vehicle accident on the Raccoon River bridge on Highway 30 west of Jefferson. Gina Rae Sloan, 50, of Urbandale was west bound driving a 2003 Honda CRV and reported hitting a slick spot on the bridge. Her vehicle struck the bridge and continued on through the bridge hitting a tree in the north ditch. Sloan was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further medical evaluation. Her vehicle sustained an estimated $8000 in damages. At 11:44 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with traffic control after an accident on Highway 4 at the Fareway entrance. At 12:49 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint at the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey.
Friday, Nov. 21: At 4:45 pm, the chief deputy sheriff responded to a single vehicle accident on County Road E-53 near the Jefferson Airport and former armory. Marc Donald McGinn, 63, of Jefferson was westbound when he lost control of his vehicle and entered the south ditch at the entrance of the armory, which is now owned by Greene County. McGinn’s 2005 Toyota Corolla Matrix then struck the chain link fence causing an estimated $8000 in damages to the car. McGinn was not injured and no damage estimate was determined to the fence. At 5:28 pm the chief deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 between I and J Ave east of Scranton. Boe Michael Jenkins, 25, of Whiting was eastbound on Highway 30 when a deer ran in front of his 2008 Kia Optima. Jenkins and his two children were not injured but his vehicle sustained an estimated $5000 in damages. At 7:03 pm, a deputy was asked to investigate a trespassing concern in the 900 block of 190th St in Bristol Township. At 11:01 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle rollover accident on 327th Street and X Ave in Washington Township. Upon the deputy’s arrival he found no one with the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup belonging to Tyler Ray Bryant, 22, of Harcourt. An investigation was initiated as to who the driver may have been.
Thursday, Nov. 20: At 10:23 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Hills Street in Churdan to investigate a burglary and theft of space heater from a residence. At 1:19 pm a deputy investigated the theft of tools from an enclosed trailer that was parked in the 100 block of Paton Street in Paton. At 5:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 144 at County Road E-18 near Paton. William Kevin Perez, 29, of Gowrie was southbound on Highway 144 when a deer ran into the path of his vehicle. Perez was not injured but his 2010 Toyota Venza sustained an estimated $5500 in damages.
Wednesday, Nov. 19: At 5:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (240th St) Street and K Ave in Jackson Township. Amber Leann Lawton, 27, of rural Jefferson reported she was westbound on E-53 and passing K Ave when a deer bounded out of the north ditch and she ran into the deer. Lawton was not injured, but her 2013 Chevrolet Equinox sustained an estimated $4000 in damages.
Tuesday, Nov. 18: At 2:17 pm, a deputy, while executing a traffic stop on an out of county resident, learned that the male had a no contact order from Johnson County which had not been served. The deputy issued a short form order and advised Johnson County of serving the male. At 11:33 pm a deputy was asked by the Perry police department to locate a Rippey resident and advise him to call the Perry PD regarding an auto accident in which he may have been involved.
Monday, Nov. 17: At 4:47 pm a deputy was dispatched for the report of illegal hunting in the 1200 block of 270th St in Jackson Township. The deputy advised a DNR officer of his findings.
Sunday, Nov. 16: At 3:05 am a deputy was advised of a vehicle in the ditch on County Road P-14 (J Ave) just south of County Road E-53 (240th St). Brandon James Milham, 23, of Callendar, Iowa, was northbound on KP-14 when he lost control of his Chysler minivan on the ice and drove into the west ditch. Milham was not injured and the minivan sustained little damage. At 9:36 am a deputy while on routine patrol checked an unoccupied vehicle in the ditch on County Road E-19 (140th Street) just west of G Ave in Cedar Township. The vehicle location and license plate number were given to dispatchers for 24 hour removal by the owner. At 1:04 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of East Herron Street in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to several windows. At 1:34 pm a deputy assisted two occupants of a pickup that had slid into the ditch on County Road P-46 (X Ave) near County Road E-18 east of Paton. The driver and passenger were not injured and were waiting for a tow truck. The pickup was not damaged in the accident and the driver did not need an accident report.
Saturday, Nov. 15: At 12:52 am the Greene county sheriff’s office, Greene County Emergency Medical Services, the Jefferson fire department, Scranton fire department and Churdan fire and rescue all responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of US Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 25 for the second accident in less than 24-hours. Alex Christopher Bruch, 20, of Arcadia was traveling northbound on Highway 25 in his 2001 Chevrolet Impala when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign and was struck by an eastbound 2014 Chevrolet G 1500 Van on Highway 30 that was driven by Gregory Dean Chapman, 48, of Ames. The Jaws of Life were used to extract Bruch from his vehicle. His passengers, Journey Jordan Dirks, 19, Trevin Jerome Jorgensen, 20, Carmon Hackett, 20, and a 17 year-old female minor, all of Carroll, were taken to the Greene County Medical Center for treatment of their injuries by the Greene County EMS and Churdan rescue. The juvenile female passenger along with Hackett and Bruch were all flown by Life Flight to a Des Moines hospital. Both vehicles were determined to be a total loss and $300 damage to the DOT road sign. Charges are pending upon completion of the investigation. At 9:28 am a deputy investigated a minor backing accident in front of the post office in Churdan. One of the drivers was issued a citation for unsafe backing. At 12:46 pm, fire units from Jefferson, Churdan, Paton and Farnhamville responded to a barn fire in the 400 block of L Ave in Highland Township. The barn was fully engulfed when the fire departments arrived on scene. The fire was believed to have started from a smoldering brush fire that was in close proximity to the barn. The barn that was owned by Duane Miller was reported to be a total loss, along with some farm equipment, hay and tools. At 1:21 pm a deputy, an Ogden police officer, Grand Junction fire and rescue and the Greene County EMS were all dispatched to a single vehicle roll-over accident on Highway 30 and X Ave east of Grand Junction. Maria Luisa Campos, 35, of Des Moines and another female were transported to the Greene County Medical center for minor injuries. Winter road conditions contributed to the accident. At 3:40 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of East Main Street in Grand Junction to investigate a harassment complaint. At 6:27 pm, a deputy and the Paton fire department were dispatched to another single vehicle roll-over accident on County Road E-18 (130th St) and O Ave in Dawson Township. Carol Joyce Love, 56, of Paton was westbound driving a 2010 GMC Terrain SLE when her vehicle slid on a patch, of ice sending her into the north ditch and flipping her SUV. Love was not seriously injured but was transported by her husband to the Greene County Medical Center for evaluation. Damage to the SUV was estimated to be $7,500. At 11:07 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a reported unoccupied vehicle in the ditch on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson. The driver advised the deputy that she was not injured and would get her vehicle removed on Sunday. The 1998 Chevrolet Lumina sustained little damage. At 11:35 pm a deputy was dispatched to another unoccupied vehicle that had slid into the ditch on Highway 30 and Forest Ave east of Scranton. The deputy spoke with the owner of the 2006 Buick and she stated the car slid into the ditch after losing control on a patch of ice. The vehicle had minor damage and the driver was not hurt.
Friday, Nov. 14: At 8:14 am Donald Ray Livesay, 45, of Panora was driving a 2001 Ford F 250 pickup truck pulling an enclosed aluminum equipment trailer that is owned by Pyramid Moving Services of Panora was stopped at the stop sign on Highway 25 just north of Scranton. Livesay then proceeded to enter the intersection onto Highway 30 from 25 when his trailer was struck by John Michael Gaffney, 48, of Rock Island, IL, who was eastbound driving a semi tractor-trailer. The semi struck only the trailer as it broke free from the pickup. The 2012 Freightliner semi-tractor, owned by Ryder Truck Rental of Des Moines, sustained major damage. Gaffney was transported to Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation, but was not believed to be injured seriously. The aluminum trailer was demolished and no estimate was determined on the semi-tractor. The Scranton fire department, Jefferson fire department, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and the Greene County sheriff’s office all responded to the accident. Charges are pending upon further investigation at this time. At 10:24 am a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a ditch fire of unknown origin in the 1400 block of 257th St in Jackson Township. At 5:59 pm a deputy was dispatched to clear debris from the roadway on Eaton Ave north of Scranton. At 8:50 pm a deputy and an Iowa State Patrol officer responded to cattle on the roadway at 310th St and D Ave in Willow Township.
Thursday, Nov. 13: At 11:01 am a deputy was advised by a Churdan resident of a phone scam that he received regarding the IRS requesting money. He called the IRS and they assured him that any correspondence from the IRS will be by mail only and not by phone. At 11:17 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Hill Street in Churdan to investigate the theft of a motorcycle from a garage at the residence.
Wednesday, Nov. 12: At 12:43 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with an arrest after a traffic stop that was executed by the officer in Jefferson. At 6:23 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. Hallie Melissa Rice, 42, of Jefferson was westbound when a deer bounded from the north ditch and was struck by the Rice vehicle. Rice was not injured. Damage to her 1999 Chevrolet K 1500 pickup truck was estimated at $3750. At 6:59 am a deputy was asked to assist the Hamilton County sheriff’s office with trying to locate the owners of a vehicle that was involved in a single vehicle accident in Hamilton County. At 10:02 am deputies assisted the Jefferson fire department, the JPD and Greene County EMS with a garage fire in the 200 block of S. Chestnut St in Jefferson. At 10:06 am a deputy was advised by a Grand Junction resident in the 700 block of S. 14th St that his dog was attacked by two other dogs running at large. At 10:46 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of H Ave in Bristol Township to investigate the report of illegal dumping. The deputy identified the owner of the trash bags and advised them that if the trash was not cleaned up quickly, charges will be filed. At 7:50 pm a deputy executed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving without its headlights on in Scranton and after speaking with the driver, the deputy subsequently arrested Jennifer Sue Maloney, 37, of Scranton for operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI)- 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor*.
Tuesday, Nov. 11: At 12:37 pm a deputy spoke with an employee at the Spark’s One Stop in Rippey about a harassment concern. At 3:35 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of W Ave in Junction Township to investigate the reported theft of a puppy. At 10:46 pm a deputy was informed by the ISU campus police of a Greene County resident who will soon have charges filed against him for criminal acts in Story County. At 11:12 pm a deputy was advised by a Webster County deputy of a stolen vehicle that might be in Greene County and who they believe may be the driver.
Monday, Nov. 10: At 6:41 am, a deputy was advised of a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 4 just north of Jefferson. The driver reported that he continued on and would come to the Law Enforcement Center to get an accident report form At 10:36 am a deputy was advised by a Greene County conservation employee of illegal dumping at McMahon Access in Scranton Township. At 2:57 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Hill St in Churdan to investigate personal items that were taken from the residence. At 3:55 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Grant St in Scranton to try and locate two suspicious male subjects on foot and another driving a vehicle. At 4:14 pm a deputy was dispatched to the John Deere factory in Paton to talk with an employee regarding possible threats made towards other employees.

Saturday, Nov. 8: At 6:09 pm a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol trooper with a car-deer accident near County Road E-53(235th St) and Parkland Ave.
Friday, Nov. 7: At 10:17 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with transporting a vehicle to the impound lot in Jefferson after the police officer arrested the driver for OWI.
Wednesday, Nov. 5: At 7:42 pm a deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of 16th St in Grand Junction and subsequently arrested Lawrence Shannon O’Neal, 39, of Grand Junction for driving while revoked and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI)- second or subsequent offense*.
Tuesday, Nov. 4: At 9:33 am a deputy assisted the JPD, the Jefferson fire department and the Greene County Emergency Medical Services in notifying residents to evacuate a two block area during a gas line rupture at the new Hy-Vee construction site. At 6:59 pm the chief deputy, the sheriff and three Greene County deputies, along with four DNR conservation enforcement officers executed their respective search warrants at a rural residence in the 300 block of C Ave. in Cedar Township. After a two day investigation by Greene County deputies, three male subjects were subsequently arrested on a variety of charges. Hossein Kolbehdari, 20, of Ankeny was arrested for theft-fifth degree, possession of stolen property, harassment- third degree, assault, disorderly conduct (two counts), assault on a person of certain occupation, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to deliver marijuana and gathering where controlled substances are unlawfully used*. Maxwell Steven McGlothlen, 21, of Ankeny was arrested for assault on a person of certain occupation, harassment, assault, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, disorderly conduct and driving a motor vehicle while barred*. Rheise Allen Presnall, 22, of Polk City was arrested for disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault on a person of certain occupation, assault, harassment-third degree and gathering where controlled substances are unlawfully used*. The DNR conservation officers also have many hunting and game violation citations that will be issued at a later time. At this time the investigation by both agencies is ongoing.
Monday, Nov. 3: At 7:03 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 (220th St) near K Ave west of Jefferson. Andrea Ruth Hartman, 44, of Carroll was westbound when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Hartman was not injured but her 2003 Saturn Ion sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. At 12:04 pm a deputy was advised of a pig that was found on the roadway on County Road P-14 (J Ave) just north of 280th St in Jackson Township. The hog will be kept by a local resident until the owner is determined. At 4:40 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office investigating the theft of a trail camera and what appears to be deer poaching in a pasture in the 300 block of County Road E-19 (130th St) in Cedar Township. At 5:12 pm a deputy was able to locate the owner of several calves that were running at large on County Road E-33 (190th St) near P-14 in Bristol Township.
Sunday, Nov. 2: At 3:08 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of M Ave in Highland Township to check a reported large fire. It was determined that the fire was a controlled burn of a brush pile and then spread to an old building and farm field. Fire units from Churdan and Farnhamvile were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames. Charges are pending for reckless use of fire for the youth that started the fire. At 8:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 144 south of Rippey in Washington Township. Lacey Kay Heater, 25, of Des Moines was southbound on Highway 144 when a deer ran onto the roadway and struck the right front bumper of the car. Heater was not injured and her 2015 Chrysler 200 sustained an estimated $1000 in damages. At 11:37 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of State St in Scranton to investigate the report of a window peaking involving several different homes.
Saturday, Nov. 1: At 10:23 am a deputy investigated the report of animal cruelty to a dog in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton. At 2:50 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Dudley Street in Churdan to investigate the report of harassment by phone from a Michigan resident. At 7:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road E-26 (170th St) and Q Ave in Hardin Township. Jaclyn Louise Baldwin, 21, of Paton was eastbound on E-26 when her vehicle was struck by a deer that ran onto the roadway. Baldwin was not injured and her 2004 Chevrolet Malibu sustained less than $1000 in damages.
